The Perfect Start To The Day...

I love breakfast.
I really do.
So we went to Wetherspoons as a treat this morning, my lass and I had sketchbooks in hand...
I love listening to snippets of conversation as I sketch folk...
Aren't I a nosey-parker!

Springtime Workshops...

It's very exciting to announce that Mrs B has a Workshop Weekender at Hope and Elvis in the Spring!
On Saturday April 29th is the 'Introduction To Mixed Media' workshop, we'll be playing with lots of techniques and materials (and eating lots of cake of course!)
And on Sunday 30th April there is a new workshop, 'Textural Landscapes', where we will be layering paints and fabrics to create semi/ abstract pictures of imagined or favourite landscapes.
The pieces here are the examples I've been working on ready for the big day.
The techniques are very straightforward but you can build up some quite intricate surfaces.
This one is inspired by the frosty mornings we've been having!
I'm really looking forward to the arty weekend, roll on the Spring!

Fancy A Boat Trip?

There is nothing I like better on a grey winter's day than looking back on my holiday snaps.
Fancy a trip to St.Michael's Mount?
It looks like the tide's coming in, so a boat trip is required!
I love the trip to the Mount, it's very refreshing!
Me Mum and Dad, waiting for me....
It's a tradition on holiday that we have to have a cream tea here.
(Well, you should never ignore tradition!)
I love their gardens here...
And Middie likes it too!
The boat ride back was extra refreshing!

Lou Lou's Vintage Fair...

On Saturday we visited Lou Lou's Vintage Fair at The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe.
It was really busy with loads of vintage lovlieness!
Look at this bobby- dazzler!
And I fell in love with this fox skirt worn by one of the stall holders.
(I did ask permission before taking this photo!.....how amazing are those shoes and tights!)
Love the Wombles!
And Snoopy!
I also met up with the ever fabulous Miss Pigeon Vintage, so many treasures.
What better way to end the day, than with a big bag of shopping,
and a slice of cake!

Play Day...

This week has been pretty stressful for the Art Foundation students that I help to teach at college... impending University interviews, deadlines, essays and the like.
I could hear myself telling them to enjoy their own artistic practice, and to keep a sense of joy in what they do.
And when I was back in my own tiny studio I realised why teaching is so important to me, because it reminds me to practice what I preach.
And so I played and flung the paint around.
I always seem to love the paper that is used as the 'table cloth' best, and things started to emerge...
Just little things, but small beginnings none the less.
I've no idea where this is going, but isn't that half the fun?

The Strand...

Fancy going vintage shopping, just the antidote needed on a grey and rainy day.
Let's pop into The Strand in Newlyn, Cornwall (we can have some fish and chips on the harbour front afterwards!)
There is so much to see in this amazing shop that it takes ages to walk around.
There is inspiration in every nook and cranny.
Mother and daughter selfie opportunity!
What a fine looking young man!
The only problem with taking photos is that afterwards you spy something that you really should have bought....like that lovely lady on the right hand side.
It's so strange how I often don't actually see everything when I'm looking through the lens.
Sob!
I really love the way that many of the items are displayed in a humourous way......
..... or this is a very scary CCTV system in operation!
Oo I enjoyed that!
Now then, do you want vinegar on your chips?
